Bohler Family Marker Dedication

Bohler Family Marker Dedication

The museum completed 2023 with the placement and dedication of a historical marker in front of the Bohler Family home on Phillips Street, two doors down from the Laney Museum. Ninety-six year old, Father Lewis Bohler, retired Episcopalian priest and social activist, witnessed the recognition of his childhood home along with friends and family, many who flew to Augusta to celebrate this historic moment.  A prominent African-American family in the Golden Blocks Community, the Bohler family hosted Dr. Martin Luther King Sr. and Jr. on their many visits to Augusta. All seven of the Bohler children graduated from Miss Lucy Craft Laney’s school, Haines Normal and Industrial Institute. One of the Bohler sons, Henry Cabot Lodge, served as a Tuskegee Airman during World War II.
