Michael Thurmond, Paine College Alumnus, former chief executive officer of DeKalb County, Georgia, and 2026 Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate, paid a visit to the museum to discuss his latest book, “James Oglethorpe, Father of Georgia: A Founder’s Journey from Slave Trader to Abolitionist”. Attendees enjoyed a lively and informative discussion about Oglethorpe, who founded the city of Augusta in 1736.
