13 Mar The Rocket Club & Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club Legacy Sponsorship
Inspired by the interests of her brilliant young students at A. R. Johnson Junior High School, Mrs. Rosa T. Beard pioneered the establishment of two legendary student organizations – The Rocket Club (1958) and the Debutante Club (1963).
In order to honor the legacy of this dedicated master teacher and her visionary students, the Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club Inc., in conjunction with the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, will spearhead two community initiatives. The first, a 60th Anniversary tribute exhibition to the Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club. Secondly, two historic markers, one dedicated to the Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club and the other dedicated to the Rocket Club. The 60th Anniversary exhibit will be on display at the Laney Museum starting in early March through the end of April. The opening reception will be Sunday, March 17, 2024, in the Laney Museum Conference Room. The two local historic markers will be placed on the grounds of A.R. Johnson Magnet School.
We are seeking sponsorships for both of these endeavors. Business sponsors will have their business logo displayed on the Laney Museum website and Facebook page, as well as the Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club’s website, Facebook, Instagram, and TicToc pages. Individual sponsors will equally have their names displayed on the aforementioned outlets. Checks may be made payable to The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History and mailed to 1116 Phillips Street, Augusta, GA 30901. Online donations may be made through GaGives (https://www.gagives.org/story/Dpi4jg); please choose “Dedication – In honor of Mrs. Rosa T. Beard”. You may also use the QR code below.
We are excited to have the former members and the community at-large share in these endeavors. If you have any questions please call Reverend Cheryl Beard, (901) 336-4112, or Corey Rogers at 706-724-3576. You may also email us at rtbdebs.laneymuseum@gmail.com.
