30 Jul Recovering Reconstruction
This year the Laney Museum in partnership with Augusta University’s Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences hosted a symposium called Recovering Reconstruction, which focused on the period in American History immediately after the Civil War (1865-1877). The partners brought in experts from throughout the region, to include Dr. Stephen Berry from the University of Georgia and Dr. Valinda Littlefield from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. The symposium was such a success that it is our hope that this will become an annual event. Our next symposium will be this November and will focus on the period of segregation from the 1880s through the 1920s. Two of the four speakers for the fall symposium have been confirmed. University of South Carolina, Columbia History Professor Dr. Bobby Donaldson will give the keynote address and Mr. Corey Rogers, Executive Director of the Laney Museum, will speak on Reverend C.T. Walker.
