In November, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the unveiling of a new Golden Blocks Mural along the Laney Walker Boulevard, “Heroes at Home and Abroad: African Americans in the Military during the Golden Blocks Era, 1898–1945”. Special guests at the ceremony were Buffalo Soldier re-enactors out of Atlanta. The mural, created by local artist Theron Cartwright, is located on the Fresh Startz & S.O.A.R. LLC building at Laney-Walker and 12th Street. The mural is on the side of the building opposite to the mural “Arts and Entertainment in the Era of the Golden Blocks”, also created by Cartwright. The mural was sponsored by The Greater Augusta Arts Council, in partnership with the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, Augusta Housing and Community Development/City of Augusta, Destination Augusta.
