It’s the first commemorative Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History Calendar!
This wonderful gift and keepsake celebrates local Black Leaders of note. Each month, features the story of an Augustan whose life’s work defines them as a Trailblazer, Gamechanger, Luminary and/or Pacesetter. Augusta Achievers features Dr. Mallory Millender, Journalist and Paine College Professor and Historian; Dr. Mac Bowman, cardiologist, Piedmont Health Care; Dr. Ebony Brown, founder of Brown Girls Code; Russell Joel Brown, Broadway actor and Founder of Boys with a Future; Velvet Perry, Vice President and General Manager, Perry Broadcasting; Hawthorne Welcher, Jr., Director Augusta Housing and Development; the late Carrie Mays and the late Willie Mays III, Entrepreneurs and Politicians; Marion Barnes, Retired 19-year principal of T.W. Joey High School and three-time president of the Richmond County School Board; Tyrone Butler, Founder and Executive Director of the Augusta Mini Theatre, and long-time staff, Judith Simon-Butler, Deputy Director and Drama Instructor, and Earnestine Robinson, Board Liaison Support Staff; Denzell Howard, burgeoning filmmaker and senior at John S. Davidson Fine Arts School; the late B.L. Dent, entrepreneur and the first black in Georgia elected to a City government role after Reconstruction; the late R.A. “Papa” Dent, entrepreneur and the first black in Georgia to be elected to a state government position after Reconstruction, and Dr. Cheryl Evans Jones, recently retired President of Paine College.

Proceeds from the calendar support the Laney Museum’s ongoing mission to preserve Augusta’s Black History, to educate the community and provide innovative and impactful programming.
