Fall Exhibitions

In October, the Museum debuted a new exhibit: “We Were Always There:  A Tribute to African-American Women in the Military, 1776-Present.” The exhibit included a historical collection of uniforms, photographs, and other memorabilia focused on the role of African-American women throughout U.S. military history.

In December, the museum held its annual quilts exhibit featuring the Brown Sugar Quilters of Atlanta. The themes of the quilts highlighted Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) and many of the quilt designs highlighted social concerns of the black community.

The quilts were on display throughout the holiday season and were the backdrop of the annual December community luncheon featuring the Augusta Chorale.  The quilts will be on display through January.
