Advanced Placement Students Visit the Laney Museum
In March, the Laney Museum hosted over 100 students taking Advanced Placement African American History courses throughout the Richmond County High Schools.
The theme of the tour was the History of African American Churches in Augusta, 1787-1970. Executive Director Corey Rogers coordinated a fascinating tour route that highlighted churches in Augusta’s downtown.
Students stopped off for tours at Springfield Baptist Church, given by Aveda Wright and for tours at Tabernacle Baptist Church, given by Autumn Smith. Tours at the Laney Museum were given by Corey Rogers and Toni Dean and included a special visit from the late author and Haines alum Frank Yerby, played by Leon Maben.
