Daughters of the South talk Visual Arts, Food, and Culture
The Augusta African American Historical Society is pleased to present the next installment of the 2026 Speaker Series.
Join us as Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs and Dr. Janaka Bowman Lewis present a special discussion on (Art) Across Generations: Daughters of the South Talk Visual Arts, Food, and Culture. This event will take place in the Lucy Craft Laney Museum Conference Room on Friday, October 16, 2026 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Dr. Gumbs is a Black feminist scholar, award-winning poet, author, artist, community activist, and preservationist of Black LGBTQ+ history and Culture.
Dr. Lewis, a native Augustan and Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School graduate, is Associate Dean, College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences at UNC Charlotte, author and American Council on Education 2025-26 Fellow.
