Women of Excellence: Faye Hargrove

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History continues its year-long celebration of local Women of Excellence by highlighting Dr. Faye Hargrove. The founder/CEO of The Better Choices Group LLC, Dr. Hargrove earned the PhD in Industrial/ Organizational Psychology from The University of Georgia. A longtime member of the academic community, Dr. Hargrove’s career has connected her with schools like USC Aiken and Augusta University, but she has also given her time and talent to many of the national renowned historically black colleges like Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina and Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.

She has used her expertise as a performance coach to work with organizations all over Georgia to include Iron Mountain, Harland Clark, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and in Emory University’s Academic Leadership and Excellence Through Leadership Programs. Her Fresh Perspectives Program is designed to allow her clients to “release stored negative emotions and reframe thought patterns that keep them stuck and inhibit effective decision-making strategies.” Her book, Better Choices: When we know better we do better, which was released in 2010, offers another avenue for individuals to explore her coaching program.

She has used a great deal of her time in the service of others. She is the immediate past chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee for the College of Nursing at Augusta University and serves on the Board of Directors for theCommunity Foundation of the CSRA. She has also served on Boards of Directors for many nonprofit organizations to include the CSRA Business League, The Augusta Museum of History, Shiloh Community Center, Women in Philanthropy of the CSRA, First Tee of Augusta, along with a host of others.
This proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated as well as the Augusta Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, has been honored by many businesses and organizations in the river region to include the Women of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of the CSRA and the 26 Women to Watch inaugural group.

Although she maintains a full career, she always enjoys spending time traveling, golfing, dancing, painting, or just simply in the company of family. This Lucy Craft Laney Woman of Excellence has spent the better part of 30 years impacting the lives of those in academia and in her community. Like Lucy Craft Laney, Dr. Hargrove is in the business of building up individuals and community organizations and it is because of this that the river region continues to benefit greatly from the time and talent that she always brings to the
table.
A successful academic career that has spanned decades is only one part of what has made Dr. Hargrove a successful individual.
