From the Top of Stone Mountain Let Freedom Ring!

The 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the assassination of Mortin of Mortin Luther King, Jr., was held on April 4, 2018 in Atlanta. Christine Miller-Betts, member of the Mortin Luther King Advisory Council and Edward Shepherd, Delta House, Inc., along with spouse Mirando, attended the event. Paine College graduate Michael Thurmond (pictured) was the guest speaker.

Thurmond formerly served as Georgia’s Labor Commissioner, state representative; and, is now Chief Executive Officer of Dekalb County. Georgia District l 0 Senator Emanuel D. Jones, Chairman of the Committee, also spoke to honor the death of Rita Jackson Samuels, who passed away on Morch 28th. A member of the Advisory Boord, Samuels worked diligently with Dr. King. Also a member of the International Civil Rights Wolk of Fame, she hod been long recognized as on untiring champion of Women’s Rights. Many dignitaries and youth shored their thoughts about Dr. King. The commemoration closed, as all of the council and dignitaries rang their bells to celebrate a life well lived.
